Automotive Sealants in Action
Ultraseal is the global leader in solutions to porosity with world class experience and expertise across the specialised field of impregnation. Our process knowledge, sealant technology and machinery manufacture are utilised every day around the world.
Our recycling sealants have been used in "tens of millions" of automotive engine blocks for some of the world's biggest global automotive names and similar sized enterprises in associated foundry and manufacturing activities.
Ultraseal offers complete turn key solutions - specialised sealants that suit a wide range of applications to reduce manufacturing costs. We provide solutions to support large and small batch sizes, reductions in cycle times and process integration into customers' production lines.
Ultraseal's global headquarters is based in the UK. Our sealants are also supplied from Ultraseal facilities in Detroit, Pune in India, Shanghai and Tokyo.
At the core of Ultraseal's success in supplying sealants to a global customer base have been three world famous brands:
- MX2 - the world's first and still the only globally recognised recycling sealant - a revolutionary development in a traditionally conservative industry
- PC504-66 - a highly approved thermo-cure benchmark sealant with a reputation for performance and quality around the world.
- Rexeal 100 - a new generation advanced and environmentally friendly sealant with improved stability, gel time, washing characteristics and thermal resistances.

BMW Automotive Manufacturer chooses Rexeal 100
Ultraseal's ground breaking Rexeal 100 sealant is being used by the BMW Group to impregnate engine blocks within a new generation of car engines. The highly advanced new six-cylinder engine is being produced at facilities in Landshut, Germany and Steyr, Austria. Ultraseal Rexeal 100 has been specified by the BMW Group for both sites following extensive testing of sealants in Germany, Austria and the UK.
BMW Group's renowned commitment to world class quality and environmental considerations makes it one of the leading global automotive manufacturers, and Ultraseal Rexeal 100 passed BMW Group's most stringent testing procedures in three countries with flying colours.
Gary Lloyd, Managing Director at Ultraseal International said "This major supply contract confirms the status of Rexeal 100 as the most technologically advanced and environmentally friendly sealant ever produced. We have been supplying sealant to BMW Group in the UK for a
number of years and are delighted also to be chosen to supply to the company for this prestigious engine project."
What is the process?
During the impregnation process, components are packed carefully into designated baskets. The baskets are then lowered into a vacuum chamber, containing Ultraseal resin sealant. The chamber has its pressure lowered to a vacuum greater than 10 mbar. This draws air out of any porosity that has a leak path to the surface of the component. After a suitable vacuum is achieved and held for a specified time, the air is allowed back into the chamber forcing resin sealant into the previously evacuated pores. The components are drained thoroughly and then excess sealant on the external surfaces and in holes is washed off with cold water. The basket is then immersed in hot water to cure the sealant and prevent porosity.
TCG Unitech LTH Slovenian chooses Ultraseal
TCG develops, manufactures, processes and assembles highly complex, light metal components and modules. They are the preferred development and supply partner to many leading businesses in the automotive industry and other sectors. Operating from eight plants located throughout Europe, they manufacture die-cast products in aluminium, magnesium and zinc, as well as injection moulded plastic parts ready for fitting.
Ultraseal International was recently commissioned to produce an automated post casting system for one of TCG Unitech LTH manufacturing facilities in Slovenia. In terms of products, Unitech produces parts mainly for Wabco, the leading German automotive component manufacturer, but also supplies component parts to other high profile manufacturers in Europe such as BMW, TRW, Bosch and Valeo.
The primary justification for this machine's installation was not only the time and cost savings of having the three operations combined but also with a heavy focus on the environment and the
increasing and ever more stringent legislation. By use of Ultraseal's world acclaimed Rexeal 100 recycling sealant significant savings have been made both in operational costs and reduced effluent when compared to "conventional" sealants. These cost savings together with the reduced WIP are both important factors in the automotive sector's constant and demanding trend towards ever increasing efficiencies and 'cost-down' strategies.
