Our specialist chemicals
Our chemical surface coating technologies have been designed to provide surface release, friction control and corrosion protection. Our Armourcote brand is globally recognised as the world's foremost range of specialist coatings.
One of our product development breakthroughs has been our Armourcote range where we have pioneered proprietary developments in PTFE technology. The new Armourcote formulations were extensively trialled in both foods and engineering industries and showed very marked improvements in durability and release coupled with high temperature tolerances. These developments were carried out in Leeds UK - the research and development home of Armourcote.
Some of our specialist surface coatings
We offer over 150 standard coatings and we can also respond to new projects, tighter specification, differing priorities and environmental issues using our expertise to offer customised solutions.
1. Electroless Nickel Coatings and Plating
Electroless nickel is the process by which nickel is deposited from solution onto a substrate by a chemical reaction, without the use of electrolysis. It is a barrier coating, protecting the underlying metal by sealing it off rather than by sacrificial action. The coating is a nickel phosphorous alloy.
- Armourcote 3600 series is a stable electroless nickel with excellent corrosion resistance
2. Conversion Coatings
We specialise in conversion coatings for aluminium and zinc products, offering a range of different chromate films and zinc passivates which possess varying electrical conductivity and corrosion characteristics.
- Alocrom 1200 gives good conductivity and corrosion resistance - ideal base for paint
- Alocrom 1000 is particularly suited for electrical conductivity
- Alocrom 407/47 is often specified for construction parts and a base for paint
- Zinc passivate
3. Electro Plating
We offer a range of corrosion and wear resistant electroplated finishes
- Silver Plating gives excellent anti-fretting properties and a corrosion resistant surface
- Zinc Plating has the ability to self heal and prevent corrosion
- Zinc Alloy Plating
- Nickel Plating
- Nickel Chrome Plating
4. Electroless Nickel Composites
Our TriCem technology is a multi functional hard/slick coating that provides a unique combination of characteristics. It dramatically reduces friction and heat generation and significantly increases the working life of the coated parts. Harder than chrome but with high lubricity, it is lightweight and allows movement of flexible substrates.
- TriCem - Armourcote 3200 series
5. Re-inforced PTFE
Reinforced PTFE is a combination of a flame sprayed stainless steel matrix and a top coat of PTFE which is impregnated into the matrix. The combination offers excellent non-stick properties and low friction characteristics make for an easy clean surface.
- Armourcote 1060
- Armourcote 1000 & 4000 series
6. Paint Systems
We offer advanced spray-coated paint systems to complement our suite of corrosion protective surface coatings. Our hard wearing paints can be applied to valves and piplines in the oil and gas industries, sub sea equipment and offshore applications where corrosion protection is required
- Armourcote 6000 & 8000 series
7. Niflor / Electroless Nickel PTFE Composites
This is an electroless nickel PTFE composite which brings together the low friction, self lubricating properties of PTFE with the much harder wearing nickel phosphorous in a matrix. The plating deposit is uniform across the component and is highly accurate to a tolerance of 1.5 microns
- Armourcote 3000 series
- Surtech 400 series
8. Moly / Molybdenum Disulphide coatings
Moly coatings are a combination of Molybdenum Disulphide lubricant and high performance resins. Moly coatings are thermally cured and thoroughly bonded to the base metal of the coated part. These coatings are used for friction reduction and control and used on components subject to high pressures.
